Previous Projects  making a difference in Kenya

Community development is an essential outworking of the gospel as we share about our God who loves so much that He gave. On our two previous missions trips to Kenya we have been blessed to be able to make a real difference in the lives of families and churches. Some of these practical demonstrations of God’s love have included:

Purchasing a water tank for a family who are also caring for twelve orphans, so they could have a continual supply of water. Finances were also given to buy supplies for their shop so they would have an income to help meet the family’s and orphan’s needs.

Gave 3 desktop water filters to 3 families, and 2 filtered drink bottles to 2 others who had a lot of walking to do, as the local water was unclean and brought sickness.

Gave children’s clothes to a family of 14 children of whom 12 were orphans.

Gave pharmaceutical supplies to a pharmacist whose stocks were very low so he could meet the needs of his remote village.

Fed lunch to around 200 people each day for 3 days at a Women’s Conference.

Bought a motor bike for a village pastor who had no transport. The shops are a 4 hour walk away and he now helps many in his village.

Paid for 2 rooms to be built on a house that was so small all the family couldn’t fit in, now they can live together.

Paid for a person to do an I.T. course to improve his skills for a better job to support his family.

Bought a phone for a pastor so he could communicate with his congregation and others.

India – April, 2013 – Davena joined with Renewal Ministries Fellowship to minister in India. Four Kenyan pastors and two Ugandan pastors joined Anita (founder) and Davena. They went mostly in two’s to different churches. Davena went to Delhi, Hyderabad, West and East Godavari District. The trip was for 12 days, and Davena’s involvement was doing children’s ministry in a slum, an orphanage and in churches; teaching the Word to women, speaking at a youth group and a minister’s conference, preaching at a church and an outreach, and lots of praying for individual people.

Kenya – November, 2013 – Tony, Davena and sons, Caleb and Boaz went to Kenya. We were ministering together as a family in Nairobi, Nakuru, Lwakhakha and Narok. Our involvement was children’s ministry in villages including a Massai village and a school; preaching in churches in the villages and in a slum, speaking at Bible studies, doing presentations with banners for worship and praying for many people including the chief of police in Lwakhakha. The trip lasted for 3 weeks.

Kenya – November/December, 2014. – Heart of Destiny Ministries was formed earlier in November. This trip was for 2 weeks. We went again as a family and ministered in Nairobi and Lwakhakha. The focus of this trip preaching for several sessions each day for a 3 day Women’s Conference in Lwahakha. Women travelled from many parts of Kenya and even from across the border in Uganda to come to this conference and all were greatly encouraged and strengthened. We also served through Children’s Ministry in Nairobi and Lwakhakha, prayer walking the village at Lwakhakha and prayer walking Mt. Elgon where many killings have taken place over the years, doing presentations with banners for worship, preaching at church services and praying for many people individually. One of the highlights was seeing a dear Muslim woman come to Christ and learn for the first time of the God who is love.

Australia – December 2014/January 2015 – Davena and Boaz joined others in ministry to the Aborigines in Alice Springs. Many different tribes came together from different parts of Australia for a crusade of several days. During the day Davena and Boaz were involved in church meetings and night time was the crusade out in the open. At the crusade we were part of the prayer team for the Aborigines, giving out drinks, food and gifts. Boaz had to speak one night to those gathered at the crusade. He was 12 years old at the time and put on the spot. This was a 10 day trip.
